Tasks and Responsibilities
The Content Development Advisor rmission is to strengthenthe position of SOS Children’s Villages through communication, focusing on making WCNA National Associations (NA) and the International Office Region (IOR) more visible and attractive for donors and advocacy stakeholders
The purpose of this position is to be responsible for providing editorial support and contributing to the development of high-quality content (multimedia content and stories) in the region by covering programmes, current events and topics of interest, and by strengthening National Associations’ capacity to develop their own content.
Working mainly in the West Central and North African region, but also supporting global efforts, the Content Development Advisor will produce and coordinate external communications content with National Associations applying journalistic skills, turning this information into stories that are used by External Communications and fundraising parts of the organization/federation.The ultimate aim being to ensure that fundraising and communications colleagues (at national and international levels) produce and receive persuasive, relevant and timeous material about the work of SOS Children’s Villages, demonstrating its impact..
Under the leadership of the Regional Team Leader Communications and Brand, the Content Development Advisor is responsible for:
- Write stories and produce multimedia content driven by positioning, fundraising and advocacy needs
- Ensuring efficiency of response to various stakeholders’ requests, and timely submission of written, photo and video material to our global database for communication materials
- Provide and facilitate capacity-building and training for National Associations communications coordinator on storytelling and content production, branding, social media engagement, consent and privacy matters relating to child rights
- Lead the social media efforts (Twitter, LinkedIn) in English and French for the IOR
- Contribute to the shaping of the SOS Children’s Villages editorial plan and lead in the development of theme-related packages in line with the organization’s strategic initiatives
- Provide regular updates on important news, emergencies and events within the region
- Manage pool of freelancers: commissioning, briefing and managing freelance journalists and photographers, where necessary, to generate content from the field
- Build and maintain a network of useful external contacts (local journalists, NGOs, other external audiences) in the region in order to gain a better understanding of regional/country issues and to be informed of regional/country developments and be able to provide relevant guidance and advice on such issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, multimedia or related field
- At least 5 years’ work experience in communications (non-profit or international development are preferred) and/or journalism, and producing communications content (writing and multimedia)
- Experience working in developing countries (particularly in North, West & Central Africa), preferably in a media environment
- Knowledge of social development issues, such as child protection, education, community/programme development, community health, child and youth development or related field
- Ability to travel internationally within the region at short notice
- Good communication and diplomacy skills
- Fluent in French and English (spoken and written) is necessary (knowledge in Portuguese and/or Spanish a plus)
- Demonstrable experience and capability to manage projects autonomously.
- Ability to work virtually in a multicultural environment and to handle change

Regional Grants Management & Institutional Partnership Development (IPD) Advisor

Tasks and Responsibilities
Under the leadership of the Head of IPD, the Regional Grants Management & IPD Advisor is responsible for creating opportunities to diversify and mobilize financial resources by driving institutional fundraising and strategic partnerships with multi-lateral, government and foundation donors across West, Central and North Africa (WCNA). S/he will support the regional IPD team to implement the new Global IPD Strategy, aligning activities with SOS International’s 2030 Strategy. S/he will be responsible for supporting Member Associations to secure local IPD opportunities and for building their capacities in partnership development and donor contract acquisition. S/he will also support the sound grant management of donor-funded projects and ensure compliance with donor regulations and SOS policies:
- Coordinate and facilitate IPD processes across WCNA, supporting the implementation of a Regional IPD Action Plan and contributing to improved standards, processes and tools.
- Act as regional IPD focal point in providing support to selected National Associations.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with donors and stakeholders, positively representing the organisation’s aims and objectives.
- Monitor and identify funding opportunities.
- Lead and/or facilitate the preparation of high-quality concept notes and proposals
- Ensure high-quality donor servicing and grant management in compliance with donor regulations and SOS policies.
- Contribute to organisational learning by facilitating capacity building activities in Project Cycle Management (PCM) and the development of concept notes & proposals.
- Support programme innovation through research and close monitoring of the development sector.
- Ensure regular and proactive communication between internal stakeholders at the international, regional and national levels and external partners.
- Lead and/or participate in cross-functional processes to increase long-term net income and quality institutional partnerships
- Support WCNA IPD Network, linking IPD Focal Points across the region to develop and share best practices and lessons learnt
- Supervise (HR management, operations, reporting) regional Project Coordinators funded under IPD contracts when applicable
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- University degree in International Development, Project Management, Business or related field, preference for post-graduate qualifications.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ working experience in the development sector in a similar role
- Strong understanding of funding environment, donor regulations and international development cooperation polices.
- Strong understanding of project management (Project Cycle Management, LFA, Results-Based Management) and grant management.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining effective donor relationships.
- Record of accomplishment in identifying funding opportunities, developing and securing donor contracts, and monitoring and reporting on implementation.
- Capacity building, training, workshop facilitation and coaching skills and experience.
- Basic financial management skills, including budget development and monitoring.
- Excellent written and spoken English and French, Portuguese/Spanish an asset
- Good knowledge of standard computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Knowledge of database packages useful
- Willing to travel regularly to international and remote project sites (up to 25% of time)
- Positive and professional approach: willingness to learn, highly organised, commitment to deadlines, results focused, strong analytical skills, and independent / self-motivated.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, communication and negotiation skills necessary to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment

- Experience in Child Protection, Community Empowerment and/or Gender Equality.
